About Grant

A lifelong passion for health and movement

Grant, personal trainer

My fitness journey began in childhood when my parents enrolled me in Little Athletics. Despite struggling with chronic asthma, I discovered the thrill of exercise and realised it was a path where I could truly excel. At 20, I stepped into a gym for the first time. I learned the fundamentals of stretching and weight training, and I quickly began to see results.

With over 20 years of experience in the South Yarra area, I've worked in private studios, public gyms, and clients' homes. This diverse background allows me to effectively support individuals recovering from surgery or those who prefer the comfort of training at home.

My training methods focus on core strength, glute development, posture correction, and rehabilitation. Remember, your health is your most valuable asset. Let's work together to preserve it through a tailored exercise program, balanced nutrition, and a sustainable lifestyle.

Long-term support, practical rehabilitation, and training that adapts to real life.

"Grant is an exceptional personal trainer who has transformed my fitness journey over the past 6 years."

His unparalleled expertise in fitness, rehabilitation, and nutrition makes him the best trainer I've ever worked with.

Over the past couple of years, Grant's guidance, in close collaboration with my medical team, has been invaluable during my hip rehabilitation and other challenges. Despite my limited mobility and various restrictions, Grant has excelled in developing specialised mat and bodyweight programs that aid my recovery, prevent future injuries, and help me regain strength without the use of weights.

If you're looking for a trainer who can help you achieve your fitness goals and assist with rehabilitation, I wholeheartedly recommend Grant. His dedication, care, and expertise have significantly impacted my life. Plus, as a bonus, he throws in a great sense of humour to keep the sessions enjoyable!

"Exercise is indeed medicine and Grant proved it was the maintenance I needed. I still follow his program today at 77 years, and am still racing."

I joined MBS Gym to be trained by Grant Perry on the recommendation of my wife Donna, who was already being trained by him. Donna had been experiencing stiffness and lack of flexibility due to age and lack of exercise. Grant introduced a twice-weekly program of stretching and resistance training, which started to improve her flexibility, particularly with her back.

My issue was a clinical history of right lateral leg pain with associated lower back pain, confirmed by radiographs of the lumbar spine. This was a problem as I race cars and your right leg is key.

With still no improvement in leg pain, I took my lumbar report to Grant and asked him for a tailored program. Grant built a special one-hour leg and back program of stretching and weights, which he took me through twice a week.

After three months, both the leg pain and back pain were totally gone. I still follow his program today at 77 years and am still racing.

"I have been training with Grant for over a year and the results have been fantastic."

I am significantly more flexible throughout my body because Grant makes stretching and mobility a big part of our training. I also attend his mobility classes, which have helped me loosen up even more and have made a noticeable difference to how I move and feel day to day.

What I particularly like is that Grant doesn't follow a standard program. He really takes the time to understand what I want to achieve, where my body is at, and what works for me. The program is 100% tailored to my specific goals and situation, and he continually adjusts it as I progress.

Training with him has become an important part of my week and I couldn't be happier with the progress I've made.

FAQ's

Frequently asked questions

A few common questions about getting started, training safely, and what to expect.

Can I start exercising at any age? +
Absolutely! With a program tailored to your current fitness level and needs, exercise can enhance your quality of life at any stage.
Should I use weights or bodyweight exercises to lose weight? +
Both can be effective. Resistance training, whether with weights or bodyweight, helps tone muscles and improve body composition as you lose weight.
Can I exercise if I have existing injuries? +
Yes. We can design a personalised program to safely work around and even help improve injuries or physical concerns.
Is it safe to start stretching at any age? +
Yes! With the right guidance and a progressive stretching routine, anyone can improve flexibility and mobility safely.
Is just one hour of training per week enough? +
Yes, even one hour a week, when focused and structured properly, can significantly improve posture, mobility, and overall fitness.
When should I start exercising? +
It's never too early, or too late, to start. Everyone benefits from physical activity, but if you have health concerns like heart issues, it's wise to consult a doctor and obtain a clearance first.
Will I still get results if I haven't exercised in a long time? +
Definitely. Any movement is better than none, and consistent training helps restore mobility, strength, and function for everyday life.
How soon can I start exercising after childbirth? +
A general guideline is to wait at least 6 weeks after giving birth. Always consult your healthcare provider for a postnatal check-up and medical clearance before beginning exercise.
